Alpacas are a crop production livestock; fiber is their crop. The finer the fiber, the more money the producer reaps when they sell it. At Bear Garden Farms our primary goal, as breeders, is to produce alpacas with an abundance of well-nourished, elite fiber. We continually strive to improve our knowledge of fiber characteristics and applications through research and by putting our hands on every alpaca that we can at various shows, auctions and visits to other farms. We meticulously pour over data when making our breeding decisions as to who we breed to whom, based on fiber characteristics, phenotype, conformation & genetics that both the sire & the dam bring to the breeding equation. We are proud to say that our dedication pays off as each year the quality of our "crop" exponentially improves over the preceding years "crop." This attention to detail enables us to have exceptional animals to offer for sale. We are able to provide our clients with animals they can be proud of and that will provide them with quality-fleeced animals for years to come.
